Almost all of the most dense magnums are in southern Styria. They like to think big. An area near the border with Slovenia, where viticulture forms a landscape, is known for being one of the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. At Porsche, they have been, and still do, their ambitions. Therefore, it is not surprising that this subtle point has been selected as a brand to celebrate the 70th, and on this occasion, the first sports car anniversary launched a limited edition commemorative watch designed by Porsche Design. As always, everything starts with small things. This is also true for Porsche and our journey to southern Styria. Specifically, in the quiet town of Ehrenhausen, about 45 kilometers from Graz. In 2019, Porsche Design will open a new chapter with its “Mission E” car and enter the field of electric sports cars.
On the one hand, they are already carefully designing the electric engine of the future. On the other hand, they are still focusing on the mechanical aspect. 1948 Limited Edition The 1919 Datetimer 70Y sports car limited edition is a tribute to the 1948 356-and therefore the odd limit-with some of the characteristics of that old sports car, but also with a highly modern “body.” It is made of a matte titanium carbide coating, so it is very light. As with all Porsche Design watches, the focus is on the dial and clean lines.
In the 1919 Datetimer 70Y sports car limited edition, the dial shows the contours of the Porsche 356 and 1948. There used to be an instrument panel in a sports car that showed a speedometer and a tachometer. The ring on the dial is inspired by the typical ring of the original tachometer. The hands remain white to ensure good readability-this is another important feature of Porsche Design in the concept of watches. The black wristband is made of the same high-quality leather as the sports car seat.
While walking along the trajectory of the brand’s history in one of Europe’s most famous wine regions, Porsche also created its own wine to celebrate this special occasion. They collaborated with the famous winemaker Tement to produce a “Cuvée 356”. Thirty years ago, Manfred Tement was one of the first winemakers in the region to recognize the potential of Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the region.
