Audemars Piguet released the first Royal Oak Concept replica watch in 2002, the case is made of Alacrite 602. In 2008, another Concept model was equipped with a forged carbon fiber case. In 2011, the model combined a titanium metal case with a black ceramic bezel. Before the SIHH Watch & Clock Show in January 2014, AP launched the latest model in the series, the Royal Oak Concept GMT Tourbillon, which added a white ceramic bezel to the titanium case.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept GMT Tourbillon uses a white ceramic bezel, crown and buttons (replaces the black ceramic in the 2011 style), which is in sharp contrast to the hollow titanium case. Audemars Piguet also integrated the movement itself into ceramic, using an hourglass-shaped upper bridge material to highlight the symmetry of the main attractions of the watch, the tourbillon and the GMT display. Both can be seen through the open dial, which is another sign of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak concept series, which was originally launched to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Royal Oak.
AP said that manufacturing white ceramic parts for watches is a complex and time-consuming process because ceramics are almost 9 times harder than steel and almost scratch-resistant. This process requires a special milling cutter equipped with diamond tools (ceramics can only be scratched by diamonds); the production time of each baffle is about 8 hours, compared to about 45 minutes for a similar steel baffle.
The 44-mm-diameter case of this watch replica is made of titanium. This metal is highly regarded for its toughness and lightness (twice as light as steel), and it is more rounded than the typical royal oak case. This new model also showcases the characteristics of the Audemars Piguet Concept Concept watch, namely the fusion of the case and the movement. The manual winding movement model 2930, equipped with a double barrel, provides a 10-day power reserve and provides energy for the tourbillon and the second time zone (GMT) display. The escape rate of the escapement is 21,600 vph (3 Hz), and it rotates in the tourbillon holder every 60 seconds. The tourbillon cage is composed of 85 parts and weighs only 0.45 grams. Each cage requires three days of assembly time, including two full days of installation time, and the entire organization requires more than two weeks of working time. Each component is manually chamfered, polished, assembled and balanced. cheap Audemars Piguet‘s proprietary parallel twin barrel system produces a constant force in about 237 hours of autonomous time, thereby improving timing accuracy.
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is displayed at the 3 o’clock position, showing the time in the second time zone, which can be adjusted by the button at the 4 o’clock position: each time the button is pressed, the time is advanced by one hour. The indicator is based on 12 hours, combining two superimposed disks. The first coil engraved with numbers rotates once every 12 hours. The second, next to it, completes a circle every 24 hours, divided into two colored halves, indicating the day (white) or night (black).
The energy of the two 10-day barrels of the 2930 movement bridges the two gearboxes through a single pinion and is simultaneously input into the gear train. Audemars Piguet said this is a gentler way of energy transfer than two common five-day barrel systems in series. According to AP, it also reduces the pressure in the gear unit, and offsets torque changes through friction in the barrel, and improves running accuracy, greater power reserve, and enhanced reliability.
The Royal Oak Concept GMT Tourbillon also has a selection indicator. According to the position of the winding handle, the pointer on the dial at 6 o’clock indicates its selected function. The “H”, “N” and “R” indications correspond to three positions, respectively representing time setting, neutral and winding.
The watch fake is located on a white rubber strap, matching the white ceramic bezel, buttons and crown, and integrated into a unique octagonal case.
