Audemars Piguet launches titanium Royal Oak perpetual calendar for the U.S. market
Audemars Piguet has just released this incredible Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch, made with a titanium case. This is a highly complex sports watch designed for the American market, and it is almost impossible for those who can afford it. It is not easy to make a Royal Oak case with titanium, as it can be very fragile when processing the delicate and sharp edges of this modern iconic case and bracelet.
This is not the first titanium RO perpetual calendar watch, but it will be the first exclusive product in the US market until it is released in limited quantities in other countries in October. The beautiful blue Grande Tapisserie dial with gray sub-dial is the new dial of the Associated Press. Judging from the news photos and hands-on pictures I have seen on social media, it looks absolutely stunning. Since its release a few years ago, I have been a big fan of the white ceramic RO Perpetual Calendar, and the white subdial (matched with the white ceramic case) is an important reason. Here, the gray sub-dial matching the titanium case cut and the blue Grande Tapisserie has the same effect, interpreting the same simple formula in a sporty and elegant way.
It is not easy to process the Royal Oak case with a hard material as titanium (or ceramic, for that matter). The hardness of titanium causes the milling tools used to make watch cases wear faster than steel or precious metals. This makes this process difficult enough, but the use of titanium to make a watch case also requires a significant reduction in the milling speed to avoid thermal damage. This means more skill and time, but the final product is the Royal Oak without compromise.
The subdial at 6 o’clock has moon phase indication and AP text; the subdial at 3 o’clock has month indication; the subdial at 12 o’clock has month and leap year indication; the subdial at 9 o’clock has week indicator. Since this is a perpetual calendar, if it remains intact on the chain, it will not need to be adjusted until 2100.
The case is 41 mm wide and 9.5 mm thick, which is almost the perfect size. The light weight of the titanium case makes it even more ideal. Water resistance is 20m, I don’t think it needs to be said but… Guys, don’t take your Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar for diving. This is the purpose of offshore companies! pre owned watches
The slim shape of the case is partly attributed to the automatic movement Calibre 5134, a 374-component perpetual calendar movement with a thickness of 4.3 mm-this is the result of adding a perpetual calendar module to the ultra-thin movement 2120 previously provided by JLC , But it has been supplied inside AP for many years now. It runs at a somewhat weird speed of 19,800 vph and has a power reserve of 38 hours, which may be the most disappointing aspect of this near-perfect perpetual calendar sports watch.
This new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Titanium watch is the dream watch of watch lovers and collectors. For those lucky enough to get it, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Ref. 26574TI.OO.1220TI.01.
