Tudor’s best-selling timepiece was updated again in 2018. Despite their diverse distributions, it seems that the market is looking for a smaller option. The Tudor Black Bay 58 was launched in a 39mm case.

Since its launch in 2012, Tudor’s “Black Bay” has redefined the brand to some extent. Starting with the Burgundy bezel model that debuted at the Basel Watch Fair, it encapsulates a modern size but historically inspired diving watch. With contemporary specifications and retro design, it can be traced back to 1954. Now, in recent history, their “Black Bay” model has been the brand’s best-selling product. When it comes to watch demand, it can revive and reinvent the Tudor dynasty as a viable and ideal choice.

The 39mm case is made of stainless steel and has a polished satin solid case on the back. Mounted on the watch is a rotatable steel bezel with black inserts and the scale is 60 minutes.

The red triangle we see on it directly references the first generation Tudor diver’s best fake watches, which also includes subtle highlights.

With a satin-brushed stainless steel screw-in crown, the Tudor rose logo is engraved on it. Ultimately, this crown is a sapphire hemispherical crown, which can help to express the water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet).

Compared with the previous “Black Bay” version, for example, the updated 2016 model series from the 41 mm to 43 mm size version has a slightly smaller case diameter.

Therefore, Tudor must also develop a smaller version of the existing MT5602 movement, which has powered most of the three watches in the “Black Bay” model series. However, despite the reduced diameter, the MT5402 movement can still retain all its main functions, but its modeling includes: a variable inertial balance wheel, a two-point balance bridge and a silicon non-magnetic balance spring.

The black hemispherical dial has triangles, some rectangular and round hour markers to show the time. The dial is surrounded by a railway pattern with a golden minute index mark.

Equipped with an angled central hand, called the “Snowflake” hand, as seen on the brand’s 1969 catalog model. The central pointer and all time-division marks have undergone a fluorescent coating to improve readability.

This “Tuduo Heiwan 58” (Ref#: M79030N-0002) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement MT5402, equipped with 27 jewels and 28,800 Vph. Here we are based on the newly introduced smaller version of the caliber MT5602. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve of up to 70 hours.

Mounted on the watch are: a brown leather strap secured by a steel folding buckle; or a black jacquard strap with golden stripes and secured by a pin buckle.
